The lower division coursework for Environmental Sciences is designed to give students a solid understanding of basic science. Students will apply this knowledge to real-life environmental problems in their upper division courses, especially the senior research project, ES 196A, 196B and 196L.

Environmental Sciences majors choose one of three concentrations: Biological Science, Physical Science, or Social Science. Although there are slight differences in the lower division courses for each concentration area, all students take courses in biology, chemistry, math, physics, environmental science, and economics. In the upper division, students must take at least one elective from their concentration area. (See the Biological Science, Physical Science, and Social Science elective list for approved courses.) Students should choose a concentration based on their intended research area. The lower division required courses for each concentration are below.

Students may fulfill some lower division requirements with AP scores. See the AP chart for AP course equivalencies.

All courses must be taken for a letter grade.
