American Cultures
All
students must satisfy the Berkeley campus' American Cultures requirement.
This requirement is designed to increase students' understanding of issues
pertaining to race, culture, and ethnicity in American history and society.
More information is available in the General Catalog or at the American Cultures web site. Most courses that satisfy this requirement have a suffix of “AC” (for example, ESPM 50AC). You may find the list of all AC courses offered in a specific semester by clicking the appropriate link on the American Cultures web site or by entering the relevant search criteria in the online schedule of classes. Students must achieve at least a C- or Pass grade in the class.
The AC course may “double-count” with other requirements. ESPM 160AC/History 120AC, and ESPM 163AC/Sociology 128AC are American Cultures courses that also fulfill the ES major’s upper division Human Environmental Interactions requirement, as well as the Historical Studies Breadth Requirement.
Students can fulfill the American Cultures requirement
at any time in their undergraduate career.
